So Donovan has been walking for a while now, but I don’t take the time to update my blog(s), youtube, Flickr, etc. You can see how that would be time consuming. My long time self hosted blog is more trouble than it’s worth these days, but I’m having a hard time just leaving it after years of content on it. Long story short, I’m thinking of using a free hosted blog like this – that I don’t have to administer and update, and just write. Anyway, Donovan is walking now. He prefers it! He will only crawl if it get’s him somewhere that helps him stand.

He doesn’t eat real well, unless it’s fruit snacks. Or ice cream. It’s frustrating sometimes, but he’s doing well and we forever try to get healthy stuff in him. The doctors aren’t concerned, but we still would prefer he eat better food more often. So there is a quick update. More to come later? Much later?? We’ll see…

Look into my eyes.

Review: Dropbox vs SugarSync for Android.

Features and storage wise, you’d think SugarSync would beat down Dropbox in this head to head review. Not so fast though. First, I’ll go over some of the important bullet points of each product. Note: This review is just for what you get for free, Paid features are another story.

Dropbox:

Start with 2GB free space. (add 250MB free for each referral up to 8GB)
Easily share and collaborate with others.
Easy to use and navigate Android App.
Sync across multiple computers and devices.

SugarSync:

Start with 5GB free space. (add space through each referral, was 500MB at one point)
Automatic backup of photos and/or folders.
Android App (more cumbersome in my opinion)
Sync across multiple computers and devices.
Share content with others.

And much more. Features and storage space would seem to give SugarSync the edge, but execution of said features is lacking. Bottom line: Dropbox is far more stable and easier to navigate. Many of my “automatic” backups on SugarSync fail at some point. The backup will upload anywhere from zero to all the photos or somewhere in between, with no clear cut way to initiate the backup again. Leaving you navigating a cumbersome app to try to figure out which photos didn’t back up and how to manually back them up. Frankly it’s a pain in the ass. So until automatic backups actually work 99% of the time or more (I don’t believe I’ve ever had a Dropbox upload fail), then I like Dropbox better. I have to manually upload anything I want backed up with Dropbox, but at least I know exactly what was backed up and that it will successfully upload. One more problem I have with SugarSync is whenever I use the app on my phone it creates a gallery called httpfilecache with thumbnails or duplicates of every photo SugarSync has accessed. I can delete all the photos and cause no issues, it’s just another pain in the ass.

Basically, if you want stability and ease of use, Dropbox is best hands down. If you can deal with issues, failures and wasting your time, then enjoy the added storage and features (when they work) of SugarSync.

For now 72suited.com is no more.

My hosting company sucks and I’m growing tired of trying to get them to keep my site up and running. I don’t take blogging serious enough to warrant paying more for hosting, so for now I’m going the free route. If somehow 72suited.com becomes stable again, I’ll go back to it, but I’m cool with this free, stable and up-to-date website. If 72suited.com remains AWOL, I may use the domain for this free site, we’ll see. At the moment it’s refreshing to know this website will be online and I can just log in and write.

Where are the jobs?

Given to those who raise money for Obama. “More than two years after Obama took office vowing to banish ‘special interests’ from his administration, nearly 200 of his biggest donors have landed plum government jobs and advisory posts, won federal contracts worth millions of dollars for their business interests or attended numerous elite White House meetings and social events,” Politico reports. “These ‘bundlers’ raised at least $50,000 — and sometimes more than $500,000 — in campaign donations for Obama’s campaign.”

For comparison’s sake, Public Citizen in 2008 found that George W. Bush had appointed about 200 bundlers to administration posts during his eight years in office. That’s roughly the same number Obama has appointed in little more than two years.

The White House insists that all these jobs were on the up-and-up, but it’s hard to deny the correlation. Somehow, this makes all those promises about “Hope and Change” seem even hollower.

My site for many years has been at 72suited.com, but as of late my “affordable” hosting site (Top Hosting Center, I will not link to them!) is showing why they are affordable. In other words, I got what I paid for. Honestly I’ve grown tired of dealing with upgrades and issues, I just want to log in and write. So I might be reviving this wordpress.com site to be my main site. If I’m honest with myself, 72suited doesn’t really apply like it use to. The government shut down the two sites I played at, PokerStars and Full Tilt. I don’t have the time or money required to play the live games I would like to play. Leaving the 72suited.com behind wouldn’t be that much of a loss at this point. Starting over is the worst part. I have many years of posts, a diary of my life if you will — that would just disappear. Dramatic, I know.
